ELIZABETH SUZANN STRIPES
I'VE BEEN IN LOVE with Nashville designer Elizabeth Suzann's beautiful pieces for quite some time and have already accumulated a small stash of her clothing. When she released some of her styles in stripes, I was so happy to receive the beautiful Clyde work pants you see in the photos. The cut is perfect and I'm pretty sure that most everything I'll be wearing this summer will be linen. My favorite detail is the roomy wraparound pockets.
I was also able to get a small little interview with the designer which you can read below!
How did you get your start in design?
I’ve always been incredibly interested in design. Creating Elizabeth Suzann has been very stepwise; I don't recall a particular turning point. I attended college at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL. I majored in Art History, and I feel as if this really influenced my creativity and perception of beauty. Since starting Elizabeth Suzann, I learn something new about design and beauty every day. I've been motivated to learn as I go. Every task done in my studio, whether it be sewing, packaging or marketing, I have done myself at one point. I still work daily with my production team, too. I am always paying attention to detail and hope to improve my work as often as possible.
What is the mission statement of your brand?
I don't have a specific statement, but my aesthetic focuses on timelessness and practicality. I want each garment to feel elegant, sexy and comfortable at the same time. I avoid hardware and non-essential add-ons whenever possible. I am also drawn towards natural, cozy fabrics. Quality and durability are also at the forefront of my philosophy when designing.
Are there any designers who inspire you? If not, where do you get your inspiration? What was your inspiration for this SS15 collection?
It is very dependent on the specific collection. For example, I looked to my favorite women from the past, such as Audrey Hepburn, to design FW14. I gathered inspiration from the working lady for SS15, designing pieces that would best suit a day of painting, mothering or designing. I also value brands such as Jesse Kamm, Objects Without Meaning and Lauren Manoogian.
What are you currently listening to?
I'm currently listening to LP. She is so fabulous.
What's next for Elizabeth Suzann?
We have a few things planned through early 2016. I can't wait to announce them! In the near future, though, we are working hard on getting orders fulfilled from SS15. We are also working away on FW15 and cannot wait to launch the collection this fall!
What do you do on a typical day off?
I admittedly have a difficult time stepping away from my work. But, when I do step away, I am most likely watching Netflix with my husband and two pups.
