ROOFTOP SUNSETS & A GIVEAWAY
LAST MONDAY, ABBIE, KARLEE, AND I went to the Arts District in LA to visit our friend Esther and eat good food at Zinc Cafe & Market and meet up with Bryan (@growlingfolk) to take some rooftop photos. Bryan had contacted me through Instagram and was looking for a rooftop in LA to shoot at sunset. I immediately thought of the roof above Esther's studio because of the lighting, the tones of the building and the views. It's got a perfect view of the Los Angeles skyline. We also made time for a visit to the Pie Hole for that incomparable earl grey pie (and then closed down the nearby Mc Donald's before heading home because Karlee and I love their nuggets). You can see a few other photos (including some colorful wall photos from near Esther's studio) on my Instagram feed.
The Arts District-- and the surrounding area-- is so great. It's one of a growing list of places in LA that I love-- they have great food, shops, and pretty little areas perfect for photo inspiration. We just had to walk a block or two to find the little patch of bougainvillea droppings and had a mini impromptu shoot there. I love the faded peaches and pinks of the petals, and Abbie and Karlee positioned them on my head. The photos of me you see in this post are taken by Abbie, Esther, and Bryan.
If you're at all interested in what I'm wearing, I'm wearing the indigo roll tunic by First Rite Clothing. Nikki is based out of San Francisco (one of my favorite places ever) and she's the sweetest. She makes and designs everything by hand. I'll be doing a post of something new she sent me soon, with more info on her label!
The jewelry is by Shashi NYC. They were kind enough to send me three pieces as a gift (a bracelet, a ring, and a necklace), and I'm actually doing a giveaway of one of them: the Barbara necklace in Black & White / Yellow Gold (see below or click on the link). I chose these pieces because they were dainty and streamlined, which goes well with my usual outfits, and also because I wanted to branch out a bit and be more adventurous since I don't wear too much jewelry really. My favorite piece, besides the necklace is the Sonia Bracelet because it's so delicate in the rose gold color and I like the adjustable braided black ties. To enter, you can do one or all of the following: (1) leave a comment here with your email address; (2) repost the photo on my Instagram feed on your own Instagram-- make sure to tag @melissasonico and @shashinyc and use the hashtag #shashinycgiveaway; and (3) follow both me and Shashi NYC on IG. Each of the three will get you an entry in the giveaway, and I will choose at random on Friday 7/11 at 11:59pm. Good luck!
