SINCE AROUND spring, I've been really obsessed with caps. Especially wearing them backwards, with less casual outfits, to balance the outfit and make them less cutesy. Like a feminine blouse or a cotton jersey dress. It's a great, underused accessory. Plus, you don't have to worry about your hair. These are some shots that didn't make it into my late summer look book for my Etsy shop, HoneyBee Vintage, featuring one of my favorite outfits this summer (and my friend Karlee's super cute pup). I ended up not putting this blouse up for sale because I liked it so much, I couldn't part with it. It's got a mini pointed collar and a peplum waist, and it buttons up the back. I'm also a sucker for a navy/cobalt blue so I don't even know why I even debated selling it. Be on the lookout for some fall items in the shop soon, though! And a new look book to accompany the inventory.

Anyhow, if you want to see more of my cap-love, you can follow my Pinterest board, All Caps.

And this is the hat I've been coveting most of all. I love the way the five panel hats fit. I think I have a big head, plus really poufy thick hair, so it's hard for me to find hats that fit well. These, like the one from Obey that I'm wearing, definitely fit the bill (pun intended). ♢

LIKE I MENTIONED in an earlier post, my sister Maya asked me to take some pictures of her wearing her Rookie shirt. We both got a tee from the closing event of the Rookie Road Trip. (You can buy them online at the site, I'm almost certain.) I think Tavi Gevinson is pretty amazing for a 16-year-old. Her appeal, for me, comes from her interest in all things 90s. I am turning thirty in October, so I was a teen in the 90s when all of the things like Sassy magazine and Virgin Suicides and Empire Records and jelly sandals and all that wonderfulness was happening. At the event, there was a display of a teenage girl's bedroom with a bookcase full of Sweet Valley High books, and I'm not ashamed to say I read all of them when I was younger. Those and the entire Babysitters' Club series, among others. It's strange and also great that that whole culture is going through a revival. So basically, it's a nostalgia thing. I also like seeing Tavi transition from fashion trends as she gets older, like we all do. I know I went through a fashion evolution. From tomboy, to urban, to girly, to preppy, to a mixture of all of the above with a lot of vintage thrown in. I think it really speaks to how much clothing can say about a person; you end up dressing differently at different points in your life. It's not purely materialistic like a lot of people tend to think.

Anyway, I took a few pictures too, once the sun started going down, unfortunately. We went to the middle school near my house where I sometimes go running on the track. Also, the picture at the bottom is from the Strange Magic Prom where we met Tavi and took pictures in the photo booth. She was a pro schmoozing with all these people that were there to see her. ♢

YESTERDAY, MY baby sister Maya was in town from Orange County so I could help her take some pictures of her in her Rookie shirt. {We went to the Rookie Road Trip Strange Magic finale which was a prom theme about a week ago, and scored some t-shirts there too. I have some pictures of my shirt too but I'll save the Rookie post for another day.} For the location, I took her to a middle school near my house where J and I go running. The field is gigantic and it was nice and empty except for some girls who climbed the roof over the cafeteria and a couple of old men with some javelins. The Olympic season does strange things to people, but I do admit I wanted to try throwing one.

For now, though, I'm posting about the swap I did with Lauren at Blooming Leopold. I am very late on this since she sent it to me in June, but I'm a huge procrastinator and I was also busy with a ton of things. Anyhow, she was kind enough to send me two things to choose from, and I think I've made my choice. This Melbourne playsuit was handmade by Lauren and she sells it along with a number of other beautiful pieces in her Etsy shop, here. Check it out. You can find clearer photos of the playsuit there!

I'm really liking the fuzzy washed out effect of these photos. We were running late and the magic hour lighting only lasted for her photos. But, in the end, I liked mine because I like myself better a little blurry.

You can read the post she wrote on the swap here.

I think I'm going to reinstitute something from my Xanga days. Did any of you have a Xanga? Well, they had this thing where you could upload what you were reading, and what you were listening to. I do love reading and music, and I think I'll be posting up some music playlists like I did on my Blogger site, but I'm probably going to focus more on books. I was talking about doing a video post even, on my newest favorite editions of books. Keep checking back to see if I actually do it! ♢

THE OTHER DAY, I received a package c/o Sugarlips in the mail. Inside was their Native Meadow Dress which is made of a nice sturdy Southwestern print that drapes beautifully. I love the structure of it. The back has a nicely placed strap that makes it easy to wear a bra underneath, which I find is always a plus. If you haven't shopped there before, do, because they're wonderful and the quality is great.

Today I got the chance to wear it to run a few small errands and go to World Market to buy a couple of rootbeers. They have a pretty tasty selection of vintage sodas in the back so J and I go there from time to time to grab a drink and sometimes wander the aisles. It's one of my favorite places to shop. In fact, that's where we got the sodas for our wedding back in March. Afterwards, we went to the nearby middle school to shoot some hoops. It was a nice summertime Friday of just hanging around the house, baking some warm chocolate chip cookies, and living. Simple. ♢
